The Southern Tier has become one of our most popular tours, and it’s easy to see why. This route is 1,200 miles shorter than either the Northern Tier or TransAm, yet offers epic quantities of scenery and shoulder-season sunshine. After dipping our bicycle wheels in the Pacific, we’ll climb eastward, riding through Southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico. In Texas, we’ll parallel the Rio Grande River before hitting the Texas Hill Country. From there, it’s on to Louisiana and the heart of Cajun Country. Finally, you’ll pedal along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Alabama, cross Florida’s panhandle, and ride to your adventure’s end in St. Augustine. From enchiladas to Texas barbecue, alligator po’ boys to Southern grits, we’ll experience the culinary cultures of the South. As one past participant put it, “This trip lends new meaning to the phrase ‘eating up the miles.’” For more information, visit our website www.adventurecycling.org, or call 800-755-2453.

This Ride goes from the first warm Sat morning in March or April until the temp drops below 50 degrees, usually near the end of October. We gather in the Mellow Mushroom parking lot across the street from the store at 7:45 for an 8:00 leave time. This is a NO DROP RIDE and everyone is welcome. 7:30 am is the Summer start time, 8 am is our Spring and Fall start time, while 9 am is our Winter start time. This is an informal ride that follows 25 miles of the Mayor’s Ride route through Roswell. This ride was tagged with the “over 40″ name in jest but it has stuck. You do not have to ride over 40 miles nor be over 40 years of age to ride with us. We have cyclists from teens to well over 40. I will start off by saying that most beginning riders find this route challenging. There are hills and there are nice flats (next to the river). Most if not all of the Saturday riders use road bikes. We had a new rider use a hybrid recently and she said she was going straight to the store to buy a road bike. That said—a heavy hybrid bike will make this ride a bit more work but it can be done. The main body of riders ride at a “C” level pace, averaging around 15-17mph for the entire 25 mile route. We have some that are faster and some that are slower. For more information, visit our website www.bikeroswell.com/rides-maps/saturday-over-40-ride-page/.
